Terrain Together
New adventures for people with mobility challenges.
Marin County Parks has acquired two TerrainHopper mobility devices to help adult visitors with disabilities enjoy outdoor recreation. This device is more like a small off-road vehicle than a traditional wheelchair. It is designed to navigate outdoor terrain at the speed of walking – no more than 4 miles an hour. It is for any adult visitor with a mobility disability - you don't have to be a Marin resident.
Who Can Use a TerrainHopper?
- Adults only – ages 18 and up – who are living with mobility disabilities.
- Can accommodate most body types, up to 350 pounds.
- Drives with a handlebar, joystick, or by another adult walking alongside.
- An adult caregiver, family member, or friend must accompany the visitor using the TerrainHopper, and take responsibility for assisting transfer on and off the device. (Seat swivels 90 degrees.)
- Parks staff will accompany all TerrainHopper outings, and provide education about using the device.
- Use will be limited to the roads, trails, and paths designated for the TerrainHopper by Marin County Parks.
- TerrainHopper visitors must follow park and open space rules, and listen to Parks staff at all times.
- Other limits and conditions may apply, for safety and equitable access to the device.
