King Mountain Preserve
A 108-acre preserve rising above the main streets of Larkspur
Rangers Recommend
- King Mountain Loop Trail, an easement through private property, circles the top of the mountain, and intersects the Ladybug Trail leading to Larkspur Creek.
- In the canyon, a bridge crosses the creek. Take a rest on a rustic bench.
- Climb Citron Fire Road for sweeping views.
- Travel on to Dawn Falls in Baltimore Canyon Preserve via connecting Ladybug Trail.
- Dogs are welcome. Dogs must be leashed on trail, and under voice command on fire roads, with leash readily available.
- After an outing, enjoy lunch in downtown Larkspur.
Naturalist Notes
- Stands of coast live oak, tanoak, and California bay trees grow alongside the roads and trails.
- Look for milkmaids, monkeyflower, and California poppies in spring.
- You may see neighborhood volunteers pulling invasive broom and acacia along lower trails, to help native species thrive.
