Rangers Recommend
- Enjoy mostly flat trails with gentle switchbacks easing the incline.
- Doe Hill Fire Road is an important link in the Bay Area Ridge Trail, an 8-mile route connecting Olompali State Park to the top of Indian Tree Preserve.
- Little Mountain is also adjacent to Verissimo Hills Preserve, as well as Novato's O'Hair Park and North Marin Water District lands
- Dogs are welcome. Dogs must be leashed on trail, and under voice command on fire roads, with leash readily available.
Naturalist Notes
- Oak-studded grasslands grow on the southern slope. The heavily forested north slope drops off steeply to Novato Boulevard, providing wildland habitat.
- Red-tailed hawks hunt the grassland on the south slope, Red-shouldered hawks hunt the dense forest on the north side.
- Deer and foxes make their homes here.
- Find lupine and other wildflowers blooming in spring.
- During spring and summer look for western tiger swallowtail butterflies along the ridge.

Know Before You Go
- Stay on roads and trails to preserve sensitive ecosystems and to avoid trespassing on private property.
- Be courteous and safety conscious when sharing roads and trails. Go slow and say hello [External].
- Dress appropriately for the weather. Trails can be muddy during rainy season.
- Bring water.
- There are no restrooms at this location.
- Steer clear of poison oak.
- After an outing, check for ticks.
